Three Common Fall Plumbing Problems

Review these three common fall plumbing issues along with how to prevent them from happening to your home. Luckily, a preventative action comes with any of these issues so you can avoid any potential issues!

Water Heater Malfunctions

With cooler weather, your water heater has to start working harder. Are you noticing your water heater is heating up water slower than before? If you haven’t given your water heater any maintenance or upkeep, now is a great time to do that before winter sets in. We share our best water heater maintenance tips and tricks in this blog post, but our best tip for Fall is to make sure you insulate your water heater before the temperature starts to drop.  Insulating your water heater helps reduce how hard it has to work to regulate itself!

Blocked Drain

All those beautiful Fall leaves might wreak havoc on your drainage system by creating a clog. Remove the fallen leaves from your yard, drainage system, and your gutters regularly to keep the system clear of Fall debris. Look up your local leaf pick-up schedule for easy leaf removal. Keep a lookout on your drainage areas for leaf buildup.

Frozen Pipes

Don’t let the first deep frost of the year cause any issues to your pipes! Remember, your pipes are at risk whenever the temperature drops below freezing. You can insulate any pipes running along exterior walls to protect them from the temperature drop. If you do experience a frozen pipe, be sure to know how to shut off the main water before any attempt to unfreeze. Slowly warm up the pipe by warming up your house and allowing the heat to reach the pipe. Follow these frozen pipe dos and don’ts!
